I understand that H.R. 831 was introduced by Congressman Greg Harper (R-MS-3) on February 26, 2013. This would phase out and repeal Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. If enacted into law, hundreds of thousands of individuals with the most significant disabilities could lose their jobs. These and others would lose their choice of a work option and opportunity.

I am (describe your relationship to Careers Industries), one of SE Wisconsin's leading agencies providing services to the developmentally disabled in our state. Through Careers Industries' fulfillment services, hundreds of our disabled citizens are given the opportunity to work, earn, and contribute. Many of these citizens have disabilities that would limit their work options elsewhere. Simply casting these citizens into the general working population is not the best answer either. The philosophy at Careers Industries is to enable those with disabilities employment options that best suit the individual, not what the state deems an "appropriate" environment for them. Some excel in a supportive environment but simply would not be comfortable working in the community. This, however, does not mean they do not want to contribute to our society through meaningful work; only that they need options.

H.R. 831 would eliminate jobs or the potential for jobs for countless numbers of disabled citizens. I respectfully ask that you do not support this Bill.
