Integrated Employment Job Coach

Job Coach

Position Summary: Provide necessary support to participants in integrated employment so individualized integrated employment outcomes are met and maintained. Also create and identify adaptive devices and techniques that will help the person be successful on the job. Lastly develop positive working relationships with area businesses so partnerships are established that benefit both participants and the business.

Essential Duties:

  • Work in partnership with the job developer to create positive employment opportunities for participants.
  • When necessary, facilitate job placement and/or work experiences/internships by taking part, as necessary, in the application and interview process.
  • Develop job situations that are compatible with the participant’s interests and abilities and which meet business needs.
  • Prepare detailed job and task analysis that serve as the training tools for preparing the participant for a particular job placement.
  • Work with participants on job related skills such as grooming, socializing, accepting supervision, etc.
  • Identify participants’ barriers to job placement and retention and provide advice and consultation as needed to both employees and employers in overcoming those barriers.
  • Help the participant and coordinate transportation to the job site.
  • Continually evaluate and monitor participant progress.
  • Fade supports as appropriate and/or seek to transfer support (when necessary) to a natural support within the existing job site.
  • Complete requested/required reports and data in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Serve as a role model for integrated employment staff and participants.
  • Possess a current knowledge of Careers Policies and Procedures and use this information as a basis for professional decisions.
  • When driving self or transporting participants, practice safe and lawful driving standards.

Qualifications:

Professional Skills and Abilities: Independent decision making capabilities. Ability to consistently display professional and respectful conduct when working with participants and the business community. Knowledge of ADA and DOL laws. Knowledge of tax incentives related to employing people with disabilities. Good oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills: MS Office, Excel, Word, Internet access etc. Ability to efficiently complete multiple duties. Ability to remain calm and objective in all situations. Ability to market integrated employment in a professional manner that instills public and stakeholder confidence and support.

Disability Related: Solid understanding of best practices related to integrated employment. Knowledge of the disability field, including lawful disclosure of a disability, participant rights, person-centered planning, school to work transition, guardianship and current academic theory. Knowledge of the causes related to a disability diagnosis and awareness of best practices for working with people who have a disability. Knowledge of positive approaches for modifying behavior. A solid understanding of “universal precautions” as they relate to health, safety and personal care.

Miscellaneous: Tolerance for working outside regardless of weather conditions (i.e.: wetness, dust, cold, etc.). Ability to work occasional nighttime or weekend hours.

Education & Training:

High school diploma required. Associate Degree in Human Service or related field and/or two years of experience working with adults with disabilities, preferred. Experience in the area of Integrated Employment desired.

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Ability to crouch, bend, balance, stoop, crawl, stretch, ambulate, kneel, twist, stand and sit.
  • Ability to push and/or pull up to 300 pounds
  • Ability to reach overhead and in front.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Physical stamina.
  • Have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License & required auto insurance.
  • Good driving record.
  • Ability to drive a car or van independently to various locations.
  • Work both inside and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work occasional nighttime hours and weekends.

Other Duties: Other job duties as assigned.

Measures of Success:

  • PIE Participants are successfully placed in integrated employment.
  • Proactive and creative strategies are used to help participants be successful on the job.
  • Annual participant and business surveys show satisfaction with PIE job coaching and follow-along activities.
  • All requested and/or required reports/data are accurate and processed/submitted in a timely manner according to established standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a consistent role model to others by consistently following established agency policies and guidelines.
